June 14th, 2010 - 68 Whiskey, JEMS Magazine, EMS and More...

There have been some new developments with STAT medical Education over the past month. Starting at the beginning of May, the EMS STAT 12-Lead was translated into French "Bonjour". This product is going to be distributed by Dr Jean-Claude DESLANDES with Urgence Pratique Publications in France. There is really no limit to where this product can go. Hopefully, it will be picked up in other parts of the world and I will be the "King of 12-Leads"... just kidding.

68 Whiskey

In addition, I attended the 68 Whiskey conference in San Antonio Texas for their annual EMS conference. In order to better serve our troops abroad, we created a Special Operations camouflage version of the EMS STAT 12-Lead. In fact the camouflage is so good, I lost my first demo copy. The military loved the camo version and will hopefully they will be ordering thousands of copies. Keep your fingers crossed...

I also spoke to JEMS magazine this past week and sent them some photo's of the STAT Medical Education products. They have agreed to do an article in the July's issue of "Hands On" product review. This review will be a write up from the editors of JEMS, raving about the products. So please...go get your copy of JEMS magazine next month and read all about it.

I am also looking for some reviews from you guys about these products. If you can take a few minutes out of your days and send me a write up of your own it would greatly appreciated. Please email to statorder@me.com.

Summary Notes for Stat Medical
12 Lead Recognition Tools

Tool given to students during initial phase of emergency cardiac care, interpretation of 12 lead ECG

Student Comments
  • Easy to use, can readily identify problems in the analysis, match this wave formation with ECG tracing to determine treatment strategies and destination decisions
  • Students will rely more on the tool in the didactic phase than on cognitive skill during 12 lead education and training- thus students have no cognitive recall when tool not available in critical situations or during terminal testing for final certification
  • Students received much interest from both the pre-hospital and clinical community about the tool and implementing into daily practice for each phase of patient care (pre-hospital/clinical)
  • Students remarked tool served as validation for their decision making capacity in the interpretation of a given patient encounter (12 lead, signs/Sx’s) in determining treatment and destination decisions
  • This device is an obvious tool to assist medical providers in the quick determination/validation of a given patient presentation with diagnostic indicators of STEMI/AMI
INSTRUCTORS NOTES
  • Great tool for student in the validation of a newly learned cognitive skill
  • Suggest that the tool be reserved for the experiential phase of training and not implemented and given to the student cohort during training
  • The device is perfect for the paramedic managing the call and the patient, thus dividing their attention, and having the ability to quickly match diagnostic indicators with the C/C and assessment
  • In this given scenario it serves the provider; they have the cognitive ability and the device (tool), to decrease potential errors in high stress encounters and assist in proper decision making strategies
SUGGESTIONS
  • The tool should be used during the educational process; AFTER the initial 12 lead presentation and cognitive assessment and validation of the student
  • This is an excellent tool for the provider as they participate in experiential learning
  • The tool most likely will prove to be an invaluable device for practicing providers and decrease analysis error, treatment decisions, destination decisions
